Knitted Knockers Initiative

It’s official! Fiber Therapy is a provider/distributor for Knitted Knockers in the Greater Richmond Metropolitan Area (GRMA). We are so honored to be supporting this powerful initiative to provide free knitted option for breast cancer survivors. Knitted Knockers are special, soft, light weight breast prosthetics that are very comfortable for women who have undergone mastectomies, lumpectomies and radiation, and/or are undergoing reconstruction.

Knitted Knockers is run by and are made by volunteer knitters and crocheters. The Knitted Knockers Support Foundation is a 501(c)3 non profit US organization where you can send tax deductible donations. The costs of managing the organization include craft materials, shipping, and website management. Postage alone costs over $1,000 a month. These costs are covered by the generosity of donors who wish to help make a difference in the thousands of women’s lives impacted by breast cancer and mastectomy.  Monetary donations can be made at their website.

Currently, we are  supporting the Bon Secours Medical Oncology unit in Richmond and need knitters and crocheters to help provide this valuable service to our community. If you or your group are interested in supporting our efforts please email us and let us know how you can help. Upon request, we will send the patterns and list of approved yarns. We can only fill orders with yarns from this list of soft cotton yarns.

We also have partnered with local yarn shop KnittingB, who have generously agreed to support our efforts. Finished Knitted Knockers can be dropped off at their Three Chopt location filled or unfilled, so that we can process and get them distributed. And stay tuned, we will be starting a Knitted Knockers sit and knit as well offering Knitted Knockers classes soon.

Thank you for your interest and support. Together we can make a difference!
